Abstract: Ichthyosis vulgaris is an inherited form of ichthyosis caused by mutations in the filaggrin gene. It commonly manifests at birth or in early childhood. Clinical manifestations include xerosis, partial or total skin lesions and scaly dermatosis without erythroderma. Current treatment options for ichthyosis primarily offers symptomatic relief. However, a significant need exists for more effective therapies as ichthyosis hinders the quality of life and social interactions of the person. Ayurveda promises an alternative approach to treating ichthyosis vulgaris by emphasizing Tri-dosha (three functional principles) balance and detoxification. This case study explores the management of ichthyosis vulgaris through Ayurvedic interventions. A 22-year-old male patient presented with generalized dry, scaly skin with pruritus since childhood and was clinically diagnosed with ichthyosis vulgaris. Ayurvedic interventions included external applications and internal medicines. We noted a significant improvement in objective and subjective parameters like scaling, erythema and lesion thickness, pruritus and dryness. This study highlights the potential role of Ayurvedic intervention in effectively managing ichthyosis vulgaris.
