Abstract: Bahumutrantak Rasa is a herbo-mineral formulation described in Ayurveda Saar Sangraha. It contains Rasa Sindur, Lauha Bhasm, Vanga Bhasm, Shuddha Afeem, Udumbar Phal Beej, Bilva Mool Twak, and Tulsi. It is prescribed for Madhumeha, Bahumutrata and Somroga. One of the symptoms of Prameha is Prabhuta Aavil Mutrata. It is correlated with diabetes mellitus in the current scenario. Therapeutic goals in Ayurveda for managing Madhumeha/Bahumutrata are Kapha-Vata Shamana, Lekhana (scraping of excess Meda and Kapha), Mutrasangrahi (astringent or urine-reducing action), Balya, Rasayana (restoring strength and Ojas), and Rakta Vardhaka (nerve and blood strengthening). Most of the ingredients of the formulation have Kapha-Vatahara action, Ruksha Guna and Ushna Veerya. They act to pacify Kapha and Kleda in the body. Due to Kashaya Rasa, the formulation also has Sangrahi action, which helps to get rid of the main symptom of the disease, i.e. Bahumutrata.
