Abstract: Infertility has been long standing problem since ancient periods. Many partners are suffering from infertility. Various techniques have emerged since the time itself. Even though ayurveda possess a specific pattern of treatment modalities to resolve the issue. Various factors like stress, anxiety, disorders of urogenital system may contribute to the causes of infertility. Shamana and shodhana chikitsa is mentioned for infertility in ayurvedic texts. Panchakarma (shodhana chikitsa) purifies the whole body and makes them to produce healthy sperm and ovum, by solving the underlying pathogenesis through various pathways. Systemic review from all bruhatrayee is done. Various research works carried out in different journals is reviewed. Panchakarma plays very important role in treating infertility by Vasti: Reproductive system present in katisthana which is sthana of Apanvayu. Vasti acts predominantly on vata. It increases strength of reproductive organs, uttarvasti: acts on endometrial receptors and increases receptivity of genital tract to entry of sperms. Virechana: according to Acharya Kashyap, virechana helps the beeja to become efficacious, it increases sheetguna required for shukrauttapti (sperm production) and increases jatharagni (digestive fire) for nourishment of shukradhatu (sperm). Nasya: It may act on pituitary gland and stimulate secretion of FSH, LH hormones. From this review panchakarma can treat infertility successfully.
