Abstract: Padmak Agad is an herbal formulation has been mentioned by Acharya Vagbhata in all types of keeta and luta visha (insect and spider bite poisoning). Ingredients of Padmak Agad are Haridra, Daruharidra, Priyangu, madhu and ghrita. All the ingredients possess pharmacological activities like anti- inflammatory, anti- microbial, analgesic, anti-bacterial, immunomodulatory and hepatoprotective etc. The present study evaluates standard manufacturing process and analytical data of Padmak Agad by studying the organoleptic, physicochemical and chromatographical parameters of Padmak Agad. Padmak Agad was prepared according to classical text Sharangdhara Samhita. Standardization of Padmak Agad done with parameters like physicochemical parameters (loss on drying at 1050C, total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble extractive, alcohol soluble extractive, pH of 10% aqueous solution, total sugar, total fatty matter), organoleptic parameters (colour, odour, appearance), High-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC). The physicochemical test confirms that loss on drying at 1050C is 11.61%, total ash 2.59%, Acid insoluble ash 0.36%, water soluble extractive 20.03%, alcohol soluble extractive 26.37%, pH 5.66, sugar 28.73%, fatty matter 20.84%. This study provides analytical profile of Padmak Agad and values of test and its phytochemical screening results can be use as reference values in future research.
