Abstract: Medicinal plants based Ayurvedic doctoring system is used widely in the world?population. The current study investigates anti-cancer properties of an Ayurvedic plant extract (CSE) against breast cancer cells, with an emphasis on?cytotoxicity, induction of apoptosis and inhibition of colony formation. Phytochemical screening showed the existence of components identified with radical scavenging activities with potential?antioxidant properties. Subsequent screening revealed critical components that subsequently may?be used to determine toxicity against cancer cells. The extract displayed a selective toxicity towards breast cancer cells with no toxicity on normal cells, suggestive?of potential targeted applications. The anti-cancer efficacy of the extract was demonstrated by its inhibition of cancer cell colony formation, it likely has the potential to prevent both cells proliferation and metastasis, even at a reduced concentration and demonstrated that it may have?potential anticancer activities against different types of cancer cells. Conclusions This study verifies the anti-cancer activity of the Ayurveda plant extract against breast cancer cells and justifies for further research to exploit its complete therapeutic potential, for the development of new?form of treatment.
