Abstract: Coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral arterial diseases (PADs) remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally. Elevated plasma homocysteine levels have emerged as a significant biomarker, strongly correlating with increased mortality in patients with both CAD and PAD and with a heightened risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, metabolic disorders, nutritional deficiencies, renal dysfunction, and venous thromboembolism. In Ayurvedic literature, these pathological conditions are collectively categorized under santarpanajanya vyadhis. Understanding homocysteine within the framework of ama (toxic metabolic by products), prevention and management of such conditions effectively through lifestyle modifications incorporating patya ahara (wholesome diet) and vihara (healthy regimen), using deepana and pachana dravya having antioxidant activity, rich in polyphenols helps in management of hyperhomocysteinemia.
