Abstract: Rasashastra, the Ayurvedic discipline emphasizing Herbo-mineral formulations, plays a crucial role in managing imbalances of the three doshas- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. This review focuses on Vata Gajankusha Rasa (VGR), a classical Kharaliya Rasayana, and its variants, Brihat/Vriddha Vata Gajankusha Rasa (VVGR) and Maha Vata Gajankusha Rasa (MVGR) used primarily for treating Vata-Kapha disorders. These formulations are traditionally prescribed for conditions resulting from Vata imbalance, such as joint pain, neurological disturbances, digestive irregularities, and musculoskeletal issues. This study reviews classical Ayurvedic texts and the Ayurveda Formulary of India to compile comprehensive information on Vata Gajankusha Rasa (VGR) and its variants, VVGR and MVGR. Both print and digital sources were analysed for formulation methods, Herbo-mineral ingredients, dosage, adjuvants, and therapeutic indications. Emphasis was placed on Rasa Panchaka (pharmacological properties) and the pharmacological evaluation of individual components. The role of triturated media and insights from research studies were included to understand their efficacy in managing Vata disorders. The examined formulations exhibit notable therapeutic benefits, with their mineral and herbal components effectively regulating Vata activity and relieving related symptoms. Each variant, VVGR and MVGR—provides distinct advantages, tailored to the specific type and intensity of the Vata disorder. Vata Gajankusha Rasa and its variants are potent Ayurvedic formulations designed for chronic Vata disorders. Infused with powerful minerals and enhanced through meticulous herbal levigation, they restore systemic balance, ease pain and inflammation, and improve bodily functions. Their efficacy in degenerative and obstructive Vata-Kapha conditions highlights their enduring therapeutic significance.
