Abstract: According to Ayurveda, “food becomes medicine when consumed appropriately.” Eating food that aligns with an individual's unique constitution, when taken in accordance with specific dietary guidelines, nourishes not only the body but also supports mental and spiritual well-being. Ayurveda, known as the science of life, places immense importance on ahara (food), referring to it as prana (life), which reflects its vital role in sustaining health. Acharya Sushruta describes a healthy individual as one who exhibits a harmonious balance of body functions, along with equilibrium of the mind, senses, and spirit. However, consuming wholesome food alone is not sufficient to achieve this state of health. Acharya Charaka has outlined these essential elements under the concept of Upayoga Niyama (dietary rules). These dietary principles are fundamental in supporting proper digestion, maintaining the balance of the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and dhatus (body tissues), and in strengthening the mind and sensory organs. Tanmana bhunjita means giving due respect to food and consuming it with full concentration. Here, we have discussed the effect of emotions and a stable mind on the consumption of food.
