Abstract: In Ayurveda, "Asthi-Sandhigata Vata" refers to the clinical expression of a Vata Dosha imbalance that affects the joints (Sandhi) and bones (Asthi). Vata's function in mobility and structural integrity is reflected in the musculoskeletal problems that might result from this imbalance. Among the most common disorders are osteoarthritis, which causes degeneration and pain in the joints; rheumatoid arthritis, which is an inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes swelling and stiffness in the joints; and osteoporosis, which causes decreased bone density and an increased risk of fractures. Vata imbalances are also associated with gout, which causes acute, inflammatory joint pain, and sciatica, which manifests as nerve pain spreading along the sciatic nerve. Further demonstrating Vata's influence on the musculoskeletal system are spondylitis, which involves inflammation of the spine, and bursitis, which is characterized by bursa inflammation. Vata imbalance also affects tendinitis, a disorder caused by tendon inflammation. Ayurvedic medicine aims to improve joint health, reduce pain, and increase mobility by balancing Vata through dietary adjustments, herbal medicines, lifestyle adjustments, and Panchakarma therapies. A comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment is made possible by viewing these disorders through the Vata dosha lens, which is consistent with traditional Ayurvedic principles for the best possible musculoskeletal health.
